An Apple A Day

Today was an awesome family day.  We ended it with a family bike ride along the river path to a neighboring town where we had dinner.

On the way to our adventure, I wanted the kids to eat a healthy snack.  Here’s a little trick I used for apple slices on the go.

You need an apple, a slicer, and a rubber band:

Slice the apple.  When you pull off the slicer, make sure to keep the pieces organized in the same way they were sliced… don’t move them all around or mix them up!

Fold the apple back upon itself, including the core.  Wrap a rubber band around it to help “seal” it back together.

Take it along with you and when your little ones are ready for their snack, the slices won’t be browned.

This was a great “pre-game” snack before our biking adventure tonight!

(Note:  This was not my original idea.  I saw it somewhere YEARS ago – a magazine, maybe? – and have used it when I needed it.  Sorry I can’t cite my source.)

Have any of you ever used this trick before?

Hope you had a great weekend as well.

With love,

  1. Thanks for sharing, this is great because my kids don’t like biting from an apple. I will use this a lot this summer.

    • Glad to hear it, Chrystal. My kids will bite from an apple, but when the apple is HUGE I don’t like giving them each their own because I know they’ll waste so much of it. That’s where this little trick comes in handy for me. I hope it works for you, too! 😉
